Project Phase 3 - Rebuilding the Porch
It was an amazing experience. We worked our way through a complex project, with so many of us doing such a range of tasks. The result was beautiful and solid as the granite bedrock!
A Whole Family Affair
We built most of the new porch framing in July. Early August, the week of the Steak Roast, we all got together to lay the new mahogany flooring and to build the new walkway on the west side. During the week of Labor Day, work moved on to replacing the porch log facings and railings, as well as the stairs and railings on the walkway.
Early July, and the foundation work is finished. It's time to start framing the new porch. 
The family work crew begins to arrive. But who is it in that slick looking new truck?
And who is that cool dude?. 
There's nothing like brand new framing to bring out a smile

Straight, level and plumb? Masonry cord is everywhere. 
Early August: darn near the whole family arrives. Does everyone have a hammer?. 
It seemed a lot was going on at once and Nolan was keeping track of everything
Steven and Mike worked on the last of the demolition.

Ever heard of the traditional Scottish competition: "tossing the caber"?
It was hard to tell whether the flooring crew chief was Scott ...
... or Matt. 
David practiced a new skill.

Nolan became more relaxed as he watched the place put back together. 
I wish I could still get things from the floor that easily.

The project was the year of Sekon's 40th anniversary. 
Mom seemed to enjoy having lots of family together.
Nolan kept his work gloves handy as he continued to relax.

As always, the Master Gardener had plenty to do. 
Multi-level job site
The lanterns went up as soon as the floor below was in place.
Even with many hands, some work just ain't light! 
Dave just kept finding more to do. 
Alan was the king of the railings and log facings.
Dad liked seeing the place being put back together and Mom just liked having us all there.
The bedroom steps are back in place, but the stairs to the walkway are not.
The last coat of floor finish is finally done.
