Spruce Lodge
I intend this web page as a hub for All Things Sekon:
- access to photos (send some good ones to get it started)
- the calendar and scheduling form
- info on projects (under construction)
- info on opening and closing for anyone who wants to be involved (or just in case Dave and I mysteriously disappear)
- expectations for Powell family members at Sekon and ideas for helping Dad enjoy his time at camp.
- I've made a PDF of my inventory list for June 2010. For each item, I have listed the desired quantity, the quantity in stock and the quantity needed.
As you can see, it's mostly staples and basic stuff, or (food that is much cheaper to get at home, like chicken breasts on sale at Wegman's).
- Green dots indicate items that need no action, i.e. they are in stock in adequate amounts.
- Red dots indicate items that I will replenish by July 4th weekend.
- Yellow dots get my attention so I check for notes etc. In the fall, I use yellow dots to indicate items I take home and return in the spring (to avoid freezing).
Summery of 2009 (not yet uodated for 2010)
In 2007, the Sekon calendar helped us to make sure, as much as possible, that Dad was not left alone to deal with Mom. In 2008, we adjusted to Mom being at Baywinde and to the associated changes in schedule for Dad and other caregivers among us. This year, with Mom's condition progressing, and Dad's abilities being limited due to his land-diving injuries, it is important that we all focus on taking the load from Dad.
- Plan to do all the cooking and cleaning any time you are at camp. Coordinate with others who are there at the same time.
- If you are at camp with Nolan, focus on spending time with Nolan.
- If possible, offer to be "support staff" to enable him to invite his friends to visit.

The northern node of the SpruceLodge wireless network should be functional by July 3rd. Ken made arrangements with Roadrunner for high speed internet access to be connected on June 29, but his efforts were thwarted because the telephone was still disconnected.
Having strong and reliable internet access (and cable TV) at camp was definitely an asset last year, both for those of us who could work remotely, and for Dad to be entertained with the TV.
Nolan At Sekon
Dave and Dad will be traveling to Sekon for the July 4th holiday. Afterward, Alan will meet Dad in Ontario to travel to the 517th Reunion. Like last year, Dave and Dad plan to be at camp for two weeks around the Steak Roast, and for a week at Labor Day.
Digging a pool
A pool of money, that is. Ken, Dave and I had some preliminary discussion about setting up a common account for expenses such as the cable bill, the phone bill (we will no longer leave it to Dad to turn the phone on and off), some of the supplies I get to stock the camp in the spring, and maybe the DSL internet access in Ontario. We should have an account to which we would all contribute and from which we could pay bills. As it is, we haven't all been good at remembering to actually reimburse Ken and Al for those wonderful wireless networks we've been using.
