Opening and Closing Camp

For anyone who wants to be involved (or just in case Dave mysteriously disappears), this page provides information on the tasks involved in closing the camp. In the past, we've just followed the directions ln reverse order to open the camp but we may actually take the time at some point to write up an "opening" list.

Task lists for camp

Or, you can have one list that includes all the above information (32kb PDF)

Inventory list for camp

In the fall, we check the supplies to make a record of what should be restocked before Dad returns the next year. With an inventory list, I record everything, storing stuff that can stay through the winter and packing up things that may freeze or be damaged, to take home and store or replace for return in the spring.

The items stocked through this inventory are intended to be used by any of the family who are visiting with Dad at camp. Feel free to use anything in the freezer, refrigerator or pantry when feeding Dad and other family at the camp. The intent is to relieve Dad of the burden of planning and shopping for family meals at camp.

It's mostly staples and basic stuff, or food that is better quality or cheaper when purchased at home (like produce at Wegman's or chicken breasts on sale). I update the list when we open camp in the spring to generate a shopping list.

As an example, I've posted my inventory list for July 2010 (43kb PDF).

  • Green dots indicate items that need no action, i.e. they are in stock in adequate amounts.
  • Red dots indicate items that should be restocked.
  • Yellow dots get my attention so I check for notes etc. In the fall, I use yellow dots to indicate items I take home to return in the spring (to avoid freezing).
  • Flagged items go on the shopping list
  • A checkmark is added when I have bought the item and restocked it

In this version, all the items with gray text and a checkmark are ones I had already delivered to camp in June. The flagged items without a checkmark are ones on my list to take to camp on the July 4th weekend.

I maintain the inventory with a database application on my pocket pc computer. If any of you want a version you can use, I can send it to you as an MS Access database table.

The towering pines along the shore were planted in about 1903. After a hundred years, we've lost a few.
