2012 Sekon Calendar (archive)

Note on the Sekon Annual Meeting: It's Leap Year! The Sekon Association annual meeting is the "first Saturday in July" which would be the 7th. Please speak up if you plan to help represent the Sekon 596 LLC.

Update, January 26:

The calendar is available, so send your dates, even if your plans are tentative. If you are thinking of being at camp during the week of July 4th, or around the Steak Roast, be sure to sign up ASAP.

• As usual, July 4th week, Labor Day week, and the two weeks around Steak Roast are "reserved for any and all family who want to squeeze in". The more, the merrier ... and more to share the load for shopping, cooking and cleaning.
• As agreed at our first LLC meeting, a couple weekends during July and/or August can be scheduled on a rotating basis for "exclusive use". Ken and Scott had a turn in 2010, and Jeff in 2011. This year I hope to grab a very long weekend (see below), and Alan and Dave also have priority. If you want to request a weekend for exclusive use, please send your request ASAP.
• All Powell family are welcome to gather during other summer weekends. In the event of overload, signing up later and being younger increase the chance of sleeping in the living room or hall. *There is an unabashed policy of blatant discrimination on the basis of seniority (age) for bedroom priority.
• Don't forget that summer weekdays, all of June and much of September are fair game for scheduling friend and "inlaw" visits to camp whenever space is available.
• Check the calendar during the summer to take advantage of unclaimed weekends. Send out an update if you are thinking of an impromptu visit. Send a message to the LLC membership to check for space availability or to request clearance to invite friends for a "last minute" trip on an unoccupied weekend.

Other Notes:

• Until I hear otherwise, I assume Dave (and others?) will open camp on Memorial Day weekend. Once again, I will probably have to work that weekend, so I will likely be at camp on a later weekend to clean, inventory and restock.
• It's been GREAT having Ken and Jeff join us in recent years for opening and closing the camp. There's plenty to do for anyone who wants to pitch in. Big THANKS to Ken for managing the essential Spruce Lodge internet access.
• Four new porch rocking chairs, delivered on closing weekend last fall, are likely to make the front porch internet café especially attractive. Thanks to Scott for researching rockers worthy of the location.
• I hope to invite Sharon's family and a couple groups of friends between Monday 7/9 and Friday 7/20. I can adjust this a day or so in either direction if it conflicts with others' plans. I've also indicated dates in September when I hope to be there with the Breakfast Club.
• Columbus Day is early this year (Oct 8) and the septic system will be operating until the 13th, so we can decide whether or not to close early.

Schedule your visits

Figure out which dates you want to be at Sekon and send them to be added to the calendar using this handy web form or by email.

Info to include:

• Total number and names of the people who will be visiting
• Dates of visit and, if possible, intended arrival & departure times (as in "arriving early evening of 7/9 and leaving by noon on 7/12)

How to read the calendar

• Those who are scheduled to be at Sekon will be listed on each date.
• Arrivals and departures are indicated in blue.
• Dates when one or more of us is scheduled to be at Sekon are gray. All family members are welcome: the more, the merrier.
• Light tan indicates dates that are tentative or negotiable: one of us is planning to be there, but may be adjusted.
• NEW: dates when one of us has arranged use of the camp for friends and other family (non-Powell) will be indicated in yellow.

Send your visiting preferences as soon as possible. The longer you wait, the less negotiable the schedule will be.

FYI: This is the sixth year for the calendar. We started it for 2007, the last year Mom was at camp. 2008, 2009 , 2010 and 2011 calendars are also archived and available for reference.
